WHAT IS AHU?
AHU stands for Air Handling Unit. It is a mechanical device used in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems to regulate and circulate air.
AHUs are essentially large metal boxes that house various components that treat and condition air, typically found in commercial and industrial buildings. They are often located on rooftops or in mechanical rooms.
Here’s a breakdown of the main functions of an AHU:
- Ventilation: AHUs bring in fresh air from the outside and remove stale air from the inside of a building.
- Air filtration: They clean the air by removing dust, pollen, and other contaminants through filters.
- Temperature control: AHUs can heat or cool the air using coils and heat exchangers.
- Humidity control: Some AHUs can also control the humidity level in the air by adding or removing moisture.
Once the air is treated by the AHU, it is distributed throughout the building through a network of ducts and vents.
