An AHU itself does not use chilled water directly.<\/strong> However, it is a common component<\/strong> in central air conditioning systems<\/strong> that utilize chilled water<\/strong> for cooling. Here’s how it works:<\/p>\n

  1. Chiller:<\/strong>\u00a0A chiller<\/a> is a separate piece of equipment that acts like a\u00a0refrigerator for buildings<\/strong>. It uses a refrigerant cycle to produce\u00a0chilled water<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  2. AHU with cooling coil:<\/strong>\u00a0The AHU typically has a\u00a0heat exchanger<\/strong>\u00a0called a\u00a0cooling coil<\/strong>\u00a0within it.<\/li>\n
  3. Chilled water circulation:<\/strong>\u00a0The chilled water produced by the chiller is\u00a0pumped through the cooling coil<\/strong>\u00a0in the AHU.<\/li>\n
  4. Air cooling:<\/strong>\u00a0As\u00a0warm room air<\/strong>\u00a0is\u00a0drawn<\/strong>\u00a0or\u00a0pushed<\/strong>\u00a0(depending on the AHU configuration) through the AHU, it passes over the\u00a0cold cooling coil<\/strong>. This\u00a0transfers heat<\/strong>\u00a0from the\u00a0air to the chilled water<\/strong>, cooling the air.<\/li>\n

    Therefore, while the AHU doesn’t directly “use” chilled water, it plays a crucial role in the system by facilitating the transfer of coolth from the chilled water to the air being circulated.<\/strong><\/p>\n
