The Daikin VRV system is a multi-split type air conditioner for commercial buildings that uses variable refrigerant flow control developed by Daikin to provide customers with the ability to maintain individual zone control in each room and floor of a building.
In 1980, VRV was originally designed and copyrighted by Daikin, the industry leader at that time. And when later other companies adopted the same technology, they named it VRF to describe their system. Since then, VRF has been the preferred terminology to describe the type of HVAC system.
A VRF system typically works better in a commercial building structure with more square footage. Split AC units are ductless systems used more often in residential settings. You may also consider that a VRF system with heat recovery can simultaneously heat and cool different parts of a building.
